PRESS RELEASE

REDWING INSTITUTE RECOGNIZED AT THE 2017 WORLD CONGRESS ON POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY
Award Winning Experiential Learning Program Shared Among Top International Research Community

Toronto, Canada: February 22, 2017 – Redwing Institute, known for its Culture & Nature Discovery Walk, focused on exploring traditional Indigenous culture & teachings through a positive psychology lens, is honoured to present it’s first program at an Individual Podium Presentation at the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) Fifth World Congress being held in Montreal, Canada this coming July. The presentation explores the key findings around the intersection between scientific research and practical application of positive psychology principles and models in an outdoor experiential learning environment.

“I’m excited and humbled to showcase Redwing Institute’s inaugural experiential learning program to the international positive psychology community” said Lisa Gervais. “We’ve been delivering the program for two seasons with great success.”

Recognizing the rising rates of mental illness worldwide, Gervais developed the program with the goal of re-connecting urban dwellers with the natural world and to traditional teachings which positive psychologists have recently recognized that promote human flourishing, well-being and success.

The Culture & Nature Discovery Walk explores the connection between Canadian Indigenous Teachings and Martin Seligman and Chris Peterson’s recent body of work on the Values In Action Character Strengths and Virtues. Their research demonstrates that when we recognize and utilize our individual key character strengths, in our work life and play life, we have greater life meaning, are happier, have greater resources to pull from in times of difficulty to keep us resilient and are more successful in life.

“We received a record number of proposals this year, many of which were outstanding. This high-caliber bodes well for a strong World Congress On Positive Psychology Program in Montreal” said Barbara Fredrickson, Ph.D., IPPA President and 5th World Congress Chair.
